A Certified Property Inspector is required to carry proof of Certification, and will be most willing to submit these documents. He/she will have invested enough money into his/her own professional education and business requirements to respect the investment you are about to make.

In British Columbia, Property Inspectors certified through the Applied Science Technicians and Technologist of British Columbia (ASTTBC) will have completed the Home Inspection Program at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). Inspectors who have avoided this process will not have been subject to the education that meets the BC marketplace Service Standard.

The Better Business Bureau of British Columbia mentions ASTTBC certification standards as a good place to start when shopping for a Home Inspector.

The British Columbia Institute of Property Inspectors (BCIPI) requires all of its Inspectors to meet the Certification Standards of ASTTBC as well as meet regular professional development requirements. This is to ensure that their membership maintains a high level of performance, utilizing the most up-to-date information available to the industry.
